Representation of Social Inequality in Mung Dodol Jare's Geguritan: A Sociological Study of Literature by Widodo Basuki

In his poem titled “Mung Dodol Jare,” Widodo Basuki addresses the topic of social inequality. The poem is a literary work that illustrates the imbalance in society. This study aims to: 1) represent social inequality; 2) describe social values; and 3) explain the impact of social inequality as depicted in Widodo Basuki’s poem “Mung Dodol Jare.” This study employs Max Weber’s sociological theory of literature, focusing on the analysis of social relationships within literary works. The data type is qualitative, derived from primary sources in the form of the poem. Data collection was conducted through a literature review using reading, note-taking, and analysis. Data analysis was performed by applying three steps: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the analysis of the poem reveal: 1) social representations regarding economic class, social status, and political power; 2) social values in the form of justice, tolerance, and democracy; 3) the impact of social inequality in the form of poverty and social dissatisfaction, which has the potential to cause social conflict.
